Review: Taco Bell Cap’n Crunch Delights

This past weekend, Taco Bell rolled out the long awaited Cap’n Crunch Delights.  These are similar to their current Cinnabon Delights, but instead of the basic donut hole, these are almost entirely different.  The donut is now a large “Crunchberry” with actual cereal crumbs around the outside.

I grabbed a 4-pack of the Cap’n Crunch Delights, which cost $1.79.

Growing up, I was never a fan of the Cap’n Crunch Crunchberries and instead opted for the much superior Peanut Butter Crunch, although I have been a fan of sugary cereals my entire life (and as an adult, I can have all the sugar cereal I want…take that mom!)

Looking on the inside of the Cap’n Crunch Delights, they definitely don’t have as much filling as the promos show (or at least from a thinner consistency).  The inside has more of a spongy texture than the Cinnabon Delights.

The main flavor isn’t just a fruity flavor, but a fruity cereal flavor.  The folks at Taco Bell have absolutely nailed the flavor of Cap’n Crunch.  The outer layer isn’t quite a sweet as a typical donut with a bit more bready texture, but that contrasts really well with the sweet milk icing.

At first glance, the center icing isn’t very thick, and it isn’t until you start to squeeze the outer shell does the icing really goo out.  The icing was a lot more liquid than typical donut icing.  I wonder if this is by design (a more milky icing to go along with the cereal tasting donut).  I would have preferred a thicker and creamier icing.

Overall, the Cap’n Crunch Delights were tasty, but only in small quantities.  A 2-pack would be sufficient for me for just $1.  You can also get a 12-pack for about $4.69, but make sure you have 6-7 people to share it with, unless you really can’t get enough sweets.

The Cap’n Crunch Delights were spot on with the flavors they were trying to replicate, although I’m not sure those flavors (fruity cereal) are really that good in donut form.  The price is well enough on target, but don’t order too many because you’ll likely be over them after one or two.
