While visiting Taco Bell to try the new Cap’n Crunch Delights, I was surprised to find out that the Bacon Club Chalupa is back and available for a limited time.
While it is available, I wanted to make sure to get my review in. Unfortunately, I think I overpaid at $3.19, while most cost around $2.99 (I’m not sure what is wrong with my store).

The Bacon Club Chalupa is described as “Crispy bacon over juicy grilled chicken in a chewy chalupa shell with avocado ranch sauce, crisp lettuce, ripe tomatoes, and a three cheese blend.
My first impression was how heavy the Chalupa feels. The shell, combined with the chicken and other ingredients really make this a hearty menu item, which is great for the overall value.
However, I do feel that depending where you bite, there is separation of flavor. At the base of the chalupa shell you have all the major ingredients (the chicken, the bacon, and most importantly, the ranch avocado sauce) while near the top has the lettuce, tomato, and a little bit of the cheese. This causes the entire top of the chalupa to be incredibly dry, while the bottom half is delicious. I think adding a lot more sauce (and maybe a more even distribution) could have helped balance out the consistency.
The chalupa shell is really good. It is a filling shell that holds all the ingredients together really well (and doesn’t split or break). The chicken is nicely seasoned, and the avocado ranch sauce really helps augment the flavors. The sauce is really yummy and elevates the chalupa. The bacon was a bit of a disappointment. Like all bacon products at Taco Bell, they use the cheap bacon bits instead of actual bacon crumbs. The deficiencies in the bacon aren’t as noticeable against the chicken and sauce, so I can’t complain too much.
The lettuce and tomatoes are pretty standard, and the “three cheese blend” was really just a few pieces of shredded cheese on top. I actually forgot it was there until I looked at the pictures again.

The Bacon Club Chalupa is very full, and even though it is a bit spendy for a Chalupa, it is hearty enough to fill someone up for lunch, which is a big plus. Also the bacon, chicken, and sauce combo really taste great together with the thick chalupa shell. The downside was the entire top half of the chalupa is just too dry. Overall it was good, but not overly great.
