As more and more food companies have ditched artificial flavors and colors, including Chipotle and Panera, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut have decided to join the trend.
By the end of July, Pizza Hut will remove all artificial ingredients and preservatives. Taco Bell will take a bit longer – till the end of 2015.
Taco Bell plans on replacing the high-fructose corn syrup used, replacing black pepper flavoring with actual black pepper, and removing artificial dyes. The dyes used help the color of different ingredients like the nacho cheese.
While the move don’t seem to actually increase the health aspects of either chain, it is a great PR move, especially in a climate where consumers are demanding more and more natural and “sustainable” ingredients.
Both Taco Bell and Pizza Hut are part of Yum! Brands. It is still unknown if KFC will be also seeing this change.
