Today Taco Bell released several new items, most of them using full pieces of chicken. One of the items is the Chicken Biscuit Taco, and can be ordered with either Jalapeno Honey sauce or gravy. I wanted to try something new, and opted to get the Jalapeno Honey sauce.
I also tried the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Biscuit Taco, which you can see my review here
For the Chicken Biscuit Taco with Jalapeno Honey, I paid $2.49.
For a first impression, I was surprised on how small the actual Taco was. The biscuit is about 6 inches long, with the chicken poking out of the sides. Note – The picture above shows a half eaten Biscuit Taco. I started eating it before I remembered to take a picture. Sorry about that.
While I felt the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Biscuit Taco was too bland and dry, the sauce in this biscuit taco really adds a kick with a flavor I haven’t had before. The sauce is very interesting. The contrasting flavors of honey with the heat kick from the jalapenos adds depth to this multi-layered sauce. The combination seemed change every second in my mouth between sweet and spicy. Overall, I was really digging the sauce. I felt it worked, and would like to try it on other items.
The actual chicken had a great crunch to it. The outside crust of the chicken is layered in tortilla chip bits that give it a nice crunch and interesting texture. The chicken itself was moderately spicy, and had a nice juiciness.
The biscuit was soft, a little buttery on the inside, and had a flaky texture. My only complaint with the biscuit was it being too dry and a little bland.
Overall, I think the chicken and Jalapeno Honey sauce really worked well together. I would have loved to have them separately. The biscuit seemed like the “3rd wheel” and didn’t taste quite right with the flavors bursting from the other ingredients.
Overall I think it was much better than the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Biscuit Taco, but still had problems of it’s own.
FastFoodWatch.com Grade: 3.5/5
The price was a little too high for the size and simpleness of the Taco, but the chicken, combined with the sauce was the hero. The biscuit seemed more like filler.
