In December we teased that Taco Bell had filed a trademark for the term “Quesalupa” in which they teased at an investors meeting. Conan O’Brien was also given a first look at the new Quesalupa at a recent visit.
We now have more details on what the Quesalupa actually is, and the truth is better than anything I could have imagined. The actual “quesadilla” part of the Quesalupa is inside the shell – literally. The actual Chalupa shell is going to be filled with melted pepper jack cheese.
The cheese is likely shipped to the store with cheese inside, and as the Chalupa shell bakes, the cheese inside is melted.
The Quesalupa will include Taco Bell seasoned beef (with steak and chicken options), lettuce, shredded cheese with a supreme version that has sour cream and tomatoes.
GrubGrade is reporting that the Quesalupa is being tested in the Toledo Ohio market now (one of the main testing spots for new Taco Bell products) with an initial price of $2.99.
