As we noted in a previous post, the Taco Bell Crunchwrap Sliders came out today. I quickly went to my local Taco Bell and picked up one of each of the new Crunchwrap Sliders: Spicy Chicken, BLT, and Beefy Cheddar. The common theme in each version is the Fritos corn chips that add the crunch.
At first glance, all three are about the same size: about 5 inches in diameter and about an inch or so thick. There is a nice grill on the surface of the tortilla shell. There is nothing distinguishable about each one from the outside. Let’s take a look at each version individually:
Spicy Chicken Crunchwrap Slider
The Spicy Chicken Crunchwrap consists of three main ingredients: Shredded white meat chicken breast, Fritos chips, and spicy chipotle sauce.
The chicken flavor is nice, but it is also drenched in the chipotle sauce. I am a big fan of the spicy chicken loaded griller that uses the same chipotle spice. I could actually have used more sauce.

I did find that there was an uneven distribution of the ingredients (which was sort of a running theme through all three sliders). Some bites would be crunchy, while some would be really spicy with lots of sauce.
The Fritos corn chips didn’t do much. The crunch was was more for show, but not much in way of texture or flavor. The “crunch” part of the Crunchwrap was never a huge selling point with me, so that was just fine.
All in all, the chicken and sauce are a great flavor combination, and I really liked the overall presentation.

BLT Crunchwrap Slider
Next up was the BLT Crunchwrap Slider. Taco Bell doesn’t really have much in terms of bacon items or salads, so I was the least excited about this one. I wasn’t sure what to expect. Opening it up, I found a very colorful inside. The ingredients include: Bacon bits, tomato, lettuce, Fritos chips, and a ranch sauce.
The first bite was a great flavor of bacon and ranch, which is always a great combination. Depending on how you ate this (either vertically or horizontally) there was a different flavor for each bite. I ate it vertically, meaning that a lot of the ranch sauce fell to the bottom. When that happened, most of the flavor was from the Fritos, although the lettuce did add a slight different texture and crunch. Overall this was much more crunchy than the spicy chicken slider, although the true hero was the bacon/ranch combination. The lettuce and tomato didn’t do much for the flavor, and the Fritos were more of a distraction. By the end, each bite had a lot of bacon and ranch, and it made for a delicious course of this 3 course meal.

Beefy Cheddar Crunchwrap Slider
Finally, feeling somewhat full, but pushing on, I had the Beefy Cheddar Crunchwrap Slider. This was the one I was most excited about, and should be where Taco Bell is in its element. The ingredients include: Ground beef, nacho cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, and Fritos chips.
Of course the Taco flavored ground beef is a classic staple, and doesn’t disappoint, however, the entire experience was too dry. I’m not sure if a mistake was made with my slider, but it felt like there wasn’t much nacho cheese at all. This caused the beef to dry out, while the Fritos were completely soft at this point. The melted cheese tasted good, but overall, there wasn’t that “zest” or “zing” that the other two Crunchwrap sliders had with their sauces. This was very bland, and quite a disappointment.
Grade 2/5
As a side note, it looks like the Rolled Chicken Tacos are gone, and have been replaced by these Crunchwrap Sliders as the new featured menu item. If they stick around for more than a few weeks, I will probably be ordering the spicy chicken version more often, as it was my most favorite, but something tells me these won’t last long on the menu.
