Reviewing an item from Subway is difficult, because the taste will obviously change a lot depending on many of the other options you have (bread, veggies, sauces, cheese, toasted, etc). In this review, I am going to just try to focus on the pastrami.
I ordered the Big Hot Pastrami Melt on Italian Herbs and Cheese bread, with tomatoes, pickles, jalapenos, and mustard, with American cheese and got it toasted. I paid $8.95 for the foot-long.
This sandwich is considered a “premium” sandwich, which is why the price is higher than most other subs. I was not disappointed with the amount of pastrami that was added. I felt there was a pretty “heaping” portion, which was fantastic. My only complaint is the pastrami’s flavor isn’t quite a tangy as I’m used to from other deli sandwich restaurants. It definitely looks and tastes great, but it could be more flavorful. One of the problems with less flavorful pastrami is it tends to get overshadowed by some of the other ingredients (especially the mustard that I got).
If you get this, definitely get it toasted (like you should with everything from Subway). The melted cheese over the top of the pastrami is fantastic by itself.

Bottomline: The pastrami could be more flavorful, but all in all a good sandwich. There is a premium on the price of this, which is unfortunate. I don’t think it is worth the full $8.95, but also I’m living in a world where I think $5 footlongs are still the norm. It is very filling, although a little too expensive for me.
