As we mentioned previously, Taco Bell released their new Rolled Chicken Tacos, and we had to try them out.
So basically, they are taquitos. I’m not sure why they don’t call them taquitos (actually when I was ordering at my local Taco Bell, they did call them taquitos). They are rolled up corn shells with chicken inside. They are about 6 inches in length. These are much thicker and longer than taquitos you might get from a grocery store freezer, but also a little spendy. I paid $1.99 for two, that included one dipping sauce.
The first impression was how crunchy they were. I thought the crunch was excellent, while the inside of the shell was nice and soft. These must have been flash fried in oil to have that effect, and it really pays off.
The shredded chicken is nicely seasoned, but didn’t have an overpowering flavor. This can be good and bad. These are really meant to be eaten with the dipping sauces. With the sauces, the chicken complements the flavor. If you were to eat these without a sauce, they would taste somewhat bland.
I feel these go great with the rest of the menu, however not as a full on meal item, but just an appetizer, which I feel they were intended to be.
As for the sauces, I got guacamole, but could have picked salsa, sour cream, a spicy ranch (which is very flavorful) or a cheese sauce. I would have preferred a bean dip, but they didn’t have one.
Overall grade: 3.5/5
Bottomline: I really liked the taste, however I wasn’t too crazy about the price, and it might be the reason why I don’t order these again. At the $1 per taco price point, there just wasn’t enough there, as they weren’t as filling as other menu items for that price. If price isn’t a problem, then they make a great addition to a party, or appetizer to your Taco Bell meal.
